Parks and Gardens


Within Wellingborough town there are 13 major park areas with a large selection of facilities including bandstands, play areas, tennis courts, bowling greens and football pitches.  

Natural and Semi-Natural Green Spaces

There are 11 "wild" areas within the town which include wildflower areas, woods and areas supporting a wide variety of wildlife and species of plants. Glamis Meadow and Wood has been designated as a Local Nature Reserve.

In addition to these Summer Leys Nature Reserve, owned and managed by Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust, is located off the Great Doddington to Wollaston Road.

 

Country Parks

There are two Country Parks within the Borough at Irchester and Sywell.  These are owned and managed by Northamptonshire County Council.  They incorporate a large variety of facilities, including some recently refurbished play areas.

Irchester Country Park hosts a Jungle Parc - a bookable rope climbing facility.

Cycle Tracks

There has been considerable work over the last few years on the establishment of a highly developed network of lit cycle tracks through the town.  Investment is ongoing, with further routes planned.

Allotments 

The Borough Council of Wellingborough owns 4 allotment sites which are leased to allotment associations.  Within the borough there are also a further 13 sites which are privately or Parish Council owned.

Pocket Parks

There are 4 pocket parks across the Borough - owned and maintained by private pocket park groups.  Pocket Parks Website

Cemeteries and Churchyards

The Council owns the 2 main cemeteries in Wellingborough town.  Each village has a churchyard or cemetery. 

Bozeat's is a site of Special Scientific Interest for the flora, and in Finedon there is positive management for wild flowers.  Each of the churchyards has a character of its own. 

Enhancing churchyard biodiversity is a specific target of the Northamptonshire Biodiversity Plan.
