Councillor Bhupendra Patel
Councillor Bhupendra Patel was born and educated in India and trained as a chemical engineer. He's been in the UK for 34 years, mainly working for the Post Office. He is married to Meena, who will be his consort for his mayoral year, and has two grown up children.
He has been extensively involved in community work, as a youth secretary, charity trustee and school governor. He is a magistrate sitting in adult and family panel courts and sits on the board of Wellingborough Homes, the Victoria Centre, and the Northamptonshire Equality Council. As well as being a member of numerous community and professional organisations, Cllr Patel is also the trustee chairman of Pravasi Mandal.
Cllr Patel was elected to Wellingborough Council in 2003 and has served as ward councillor for the Hemmingwell ward for eight years. He has been vice chairman of the council's community committee and also a member of the planning committee, resources committee, standards and scrutiny committees.
