Q: Why doesn't Wellingborough monitor Small particles (PM10)?
In 2005 Wellingborough Borough Council recorded concentrations of PM10 at three sites within Wellingborough District: Alma Street, Elsden Road and Earls Barton using Osiris light scattering particle analysers. A TEOM monitor was co-located at Elsden Road. The Alma Street and Elsden Road monitors were located near Wellingborough town centre. The Earls Barton monitor was located in a village approximately 4 miles South West of Wellingborough.
PM10 monitoring results for 2005 showed that all sites were well within the annual mean air quality objective of 40µg/m³ and were below the maximum permitted number of 35 exceedences of the 24 hour mean objective. It was concluded in the 2006 USA report that the air quality objective for PM10 is likely to be met in the Borough of Wellingborough. As a result of this report it was decided to discontinue monitoring PM10 at these sites.
