Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why doesn't Wellingborough monitor carbon monoxide?

Answer:

National monitoring data for CO indicates that it is unlikely that the air quality objective for this pollutant will be exceeded in any local authority area.  Guidance issued by DEFRA states that if exceedences of the air quality objectives of this pollutant are to arise it would be most probable in areas close to very busy roads and junctions, defined as:

  • Single carriageways with daily average flows of 80,000 vehicles per day.
  • Dual carriageways (2 or 3 lane) roads with daily average traffic flows which exceed 120,000 vehicles per day.
  • Motorways with daily average traffic flows which exceed 140,000 vehicles per day.

Details of traffic flows obtained from traffic data approved by Northamptonshire County Councils Transport and Planning Department shows that there are no road traffic sources in the Borough which meet the above criteria.
