Cimate Change
Our climate is changing.

Warming of the earths climate system is indisputable, as is now evident from direct observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea levels.

We need to adapt our way of life so that we can prepare for the changes that are already in the climate system - for us, increased intensity of severe weather events, hot summers being extremely hot, changes in the distribution of rainfall.

Whilst some people still cling on to the idea that the earths climate is always changing (absolutely true), and that what we're seeing is just part of that natural cycle, the evidence strongly points to our increasing emissions of so-called "greenhouse gases" as being the driver this time. The pace at which global temperatures are rising, correlated with the increased levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere and a whole host of other forms of evidence indicate that this is the case.

However, whether or not you believe that man-made emissions are the reason for the changing climate, we still need to adapt to the changes that are indisputably taking place, and also find ways of reducing our dependence on carbon based fuels which will, one day, run out.

The pages in this section give more information on some of the projects that the Borough Council of Wellingborough is involved in to ensure that we're prepared for what the future climate might have in store.
